Before my visit to Michigan's U.P. (Upper Peninsula), I never thought much about Michigan. Now, I have totally fallen in love with the beauty of the UP, I would like to one day retire and be an official Yooper (that's what the residents there are called). Dan and I stayed on Beaton's Lake in a small 10x10 cabin with a wooden ladder that we climbed to get to our bunks. We showered in an outdoor shower overlooking the lake and we used an outhouse . . . we were staying with our friends, The Clementz Family: Rob, Bobby, Becky, and Tarish. Rob is a retired child psychologist. He and Dan used to work together in a rural Appalachian community. While visiting our friends at their lake, I decided to try out canoeing in the 90 feet deep lake. What an amazing experience, and I didn't even get wet!!
I also had the privilege of being taught how to drive a speed boat and as you can see the boat didn't sink and no one got injured. I had fun being captain :)
