Beckley, WV

Back home in WV . . . we stopped in Beckley to see one of Dr. Henderson's former students, Clif Adkins who is a minister there. Clif is a talented young man and we can see God working in his life. We went to Logans for dinner and Clif received his copy of the book, I The Antichrist. Clif is interested in writing a screen play of the book, as well as, finishing some stories that he is writing. We love you, Clif . . .
Wish we could be there for your Sunday sermon!

As we leave Clif, we are reminded of this trip and how God led us. We are grateful for His protection and blessings. During this trip, Dr. Henderson was permitted to speak to various groups, sign some books, meet new friends, and reacquaint with old friends, during the course of this journey, we traveled thru 27 states, were on the road 43 consecutive days, and covered over 10,000 miles. We literally went border to border and coast to coast. And these High Plains Drifters learned that at the end of this adventure, as much as we enjoyed it . . .
"There IS no place like home"!

Lebanon, VA

We were blessed to have spent some time with Aunt Rose in Lebanon, Virginia. She is so dear to us and we always try to stop for a visit anytime we are traveling. This particular visit, she showed us a fantastic seafood restaurant called, "The Riverfront". We had oysters, scallops, fish, clams, etc. Yummy. We also enjoyed the water from the river cascading over the rocks in the midst of the green forest . . . so beautiful. But most of all we enjoyed the fellowship with Aunt Rose.

Help . . . the lobster has Aunt Rose!!!!

Friendly Kenly: North Carolina

Known as "Friendly Kenly", it lived up to its name. Kenly, NC, is the home of Charles T. Couch and his lovely wife, Brenda. After a long search on the internet, we finally found him and it was definitely worth the searching. Charles and Brenda showed us true southern hospitality (more about that to come). Charles and Dan were friends from 1968, where they both served in the Vietnam War. Although, Dan had not seen Charles since leaving Vietnam in Dec '69, Charles was extremely warm and welcoming to us. Dan said that Charles made such an impression on him that he wanted to reacquaint and continue the friendship started so long ago . . .

Never have we experienced such southern hospitality as we did in Kenly . . . Brenda, with all her charm and southern beauty, opened her home to us with sweet tea, and warm biscuits, but that wasn't all . . . she made a delicious home cooked dinner for us that included, pulled pork, roast beef, mashed potatoes, cucumber and tomato salad, coleslaw, hush puppies, biscuits, lima beans, ratatouille, peach cobbler, ice cream, sweet tea, etc. Boy, were we in heaven! Not only was the food delicious, there was plenty of it, and we felt right at home.

Saying goodbye is always difficult, the time seemed to go by so quickly. We are blessed to have Charles and Brenda in our lives and plan to continue this wonderful friendship for many years to come. God bless you both and many many thanks and love from the ' high plains drifters ' . . .

The Lonestar State: Texas

Welcome to Pleasanton, Texas, home of Bob and Verna Byrd. Bob Byrd was the European Director of the Navigators. Dan was a student with Bob's group in 1970 - 71. Bob and Verna have been in the Lord's work for more than 50 years. Their love for the Lord radiates from them as they continue their ministry near their home, now, in Pleasanton, Texas.

Bob and Dan have been teacher / student "friends" since 1970 when Dan was assigned to Hahn Military Base in Germany.

Verna made us feel so welcome in her home and her laughter was contagious. I loved watching her laugh and share with us what God had done in her life while in Germany and back home in the States. She introduced me to her "children" Missy the beagle and Lady the cat. I loved those "kids"!

Bob, Leigh-Ann, and Verna

Dan spoke and signed books for CAMO: Christian Alliance of Men Outdoors.
He spoke at the Lonestar Lodge to a room full of Texas Cowboys.

Below is a picture of Dan signing a book for one of the cowboys.

Thanks and a big ole' Texas hug to Bob and Verna for welcoming us so warmly.

Flagstaff, Arizona

While in Tehachapi, the Holy Spirit placed a thought in my heart that we should give books to individuals who could really relate to Dan's story i.e. those who are homeless, on drugs, alcoholics, etc. If you have read Dan's story, you will find out that he experienced all of those things and God helped him. My thought was that his story may offer hope to others and point them to God through Jesus. I Googled "rescue mission + Flagstaff AZ" and "Project Jesus" appeared on my blackberry, so I called and Rev. Elizabeth Savage Johnson answered. She listened to my words, and invited us to join in the following day as Project Jesus was to feed over 100 folks. We went, Dan was hoping this was really the Holy Spirit calling us and not just my "youthful exuberance". When we arrived, it was like God giving His seal of approval, in that the first person I met was a Deaf Navajo man named, Ray who was so excited to have someone to sign with him. I knew that God had given us this opportunity so that we could grow and learn more about Him.

Think Jesus Project ministers to over 400 individuals in Flagstaff.

Volunteers come to donate and serve food. On this particular day, we had hotdogs, salad, chips, and dessert.

Below is a picture of the crowd . . . I am reminded, "And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is my disciple, I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward."

I was moved by the compassion that the volunteers had towards the people
and I am assured that God IS Love and Jesus IS Compassion.
When we hurt, Jesus hurts.

I'd like to introduce you to my friend, Ray. He is Deaf. He is a Navajo from the Navajo reservation in Leupp, AZ. He signs ASL but lipreads Navajo. He told me about Jesus. Think Jesus Project had been feeding him not simply food, but the understanding of Jesus. He told me, "Jesus is up there, and down here too, He wanted to live in my heart, so I let him, my heart is His house." His name sign is, "Jesus".

Leigh-Ann and Ray

Jesus Loves You !
In closing, Dr. Dan sat on the curb with some of the people and signed their books.

Tehachapi, CA

Tehachapi is the home of the Bookers, Ken and his wife, Minnie. Dan has been friends with Ken since their military service in Europe in 1970. Ken and Dan shared many memories.
Below is a picture of Ken . . .

Minnie

Hey, wait a second, didn't we see MICKEY in Montana ? What is Minnie doing here in CA ?
Could she be seeking stardom ?

These are the Booker grandsons, Collin, Mason, and Gabriel, and boy, were they sweethearts. Collin, the oldest sitting beside me told me that he "listens to God all the time" and is going to school to "learn to read the Bibles". He asked me if I had kids, and when I replied, "no", he suggested that I have one baby and 2 little boys so that they could all play together.
Nothing better than a 4 year old thinking you'd be a good mom :)

This is Snowy . . . SHE IS A PUPPY! This pup is only 10 months old --- WOW!
I fell quickly in love with her!!!

We went to celebrate Ken's nearing retirement at Pacino's Spaghetti Factory.
Congratulations Ken, it's been a long time comin'!
Thank you Minnie for introducing me to artichokes.
Love you guys!

Paso Robles, CA

Paso Robles, CA:

Odie Carter and Dan have been friends since their military service together in Europe in 1970. Dan said, he noticed Odie's gentle spirit and compassionate heart even then.

Below is a picture of Odie in Europe in 1970 . . .

This is Odie now in Paso Robles 2010 . . .

Odie shared his testimony of growing up without knowledge of Jesus and struggling with his young adult years which led him into the Air Force and in confusion, turning to substance which controlled his life until one day on base, he knelt before God and pleaded for intervention. Just a few days later, God sent a group called The Navigators into Odie's life and they pointed him to Jesus. Odie is now pointing others to our loving God through Jesus.

Below is a picture of Odie and his wife Susan . . .

Every Thursday, Odie & Susan have a Potluck dinner at their home and folks come to share their life stories and learn about God's love. I was BLESSED by being allowed to attend this meeting . . . we shared stories, laughed, cried, sang, and prayed. Dan led a brief discussion and signed books for those in attendance. This was an evening I won't forget . . . I was encouraged and very blessed!

At closing of the evening, Odie led us in singing, "My Saviour, My God".
